Police said they were called to an incident where a man was injured by another person on Rathlin St — at the entrance to the Blockhouse Bay Recreation Reserve and the Blockhouse Bay Tennis Club — around 11.37am on Saturday.

“Upon arrival, a man was located with critical injuries,” a spokesperson said.

“Sadly, despite efforts of emergency services, the man died at the scene.

Cordons have been put in place and a scene examination will be carried out over the following days.

Blockhouse Bay residents can expect an increased police presence as inquiries get underway, the spokesperson added.

“We will be speaking to those who witnessed what has occurred and we encourage anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact police as soon as possible.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, and we are providing them with support at this difficult time.”

Footage from the scene shows a police specialist shelter being set up in the car park outside the tennis club.

A spokesperson for the tennis club told 1News an incident had occurred “but we are unable to give any information at this stage”.
