A man is in hospital with critical injuries after being stabbed by someone who got out of another car at an intersection in Christchurch’s Riccarton last night.

Police said the incident occurred at the intersection of Clarence St and Blenheim Rd at about 5.40pm yesterday.

Police said the incident occurred at the intersection of Clarence St and Blenheim Rd at about 5.40pm.

Detective Sergeant James Haigh said the two cars were at the red lights outside a carwash business when a man got out of one car and attacked the victim, who was in the other car.

“The offender has then fled north on Clarence Street towards Riccarton Road.”

Police have launched an investigation and are working to establish the circumstances around the incident, Haigh said.

“Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed this incident or has footage of it.”

Anyone with relevant information should call 105, police said.
