Officers searched the West Auckland property on Tuesday and spotted the room and some of its contents from outside.

“At the front of the property, our staff could clearly see a small room with multiple firearms stashed inside,” Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Brand said.

Following an initial search of the property, police obtained a search warrant and were able to get into the room.

Brand said 15 firearms were seized. Two of which were later identified as air rifles.

Police said a kilogram of methamphetamine, alongside utensils, was also found. A stolen vehicle was also alleged recovered at the address.

A 58-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested at the address.

The man faced 33 charges, including 13 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession for supply of methamphetamine and receiving stolen property. These charges were on top of 14 others related to breaching his reporting obligations.

The woman was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and drug charges relating to possession of methamphetamine and utensils.

“It’s concerning these firearms were in the man’s possession, but we are pleased that these are now out of circulation,” Brand said.

The man has appeared in the Auckland District Court and was remanded in custody to reappear in January. The woman was expected to appear in court on December 16.
