Tonga Police arrested and charged 41 motorists for drink-driving last week as authorities continued their nationwide efforts to improve road safety and reduce alcohol-related accidents.

The latest arrests follow a series of police operations targeting intoxicated drivers, with 50 motorists arrested the previous week, raising the total to 91 over the two reporting periods.

According to Tonga Police, the latest arrests involved 31 men and 10 women.

The figures represent a decrease of nine arrests compared with the previous week, when 38 men and 12 women were charged.

Police Reinforce Road Safety

Police said the arrests were part of ongoing enforcement operations aimed at promoting responsible driving and protecting motorists, passengers and pedestrians.

Authorities have continued to warn drivers about the dangers of consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel.

Tonga Police reminded the public that drink-driving not only puts motorists themselves at risk but also threatens the safety of other road users.
